Brendolin Lavellan

Brendolin Lavellan

Lady Inquisitor of Clan Lavellan, Comtesse of Kirkwall

Born 9:13 Dragon
Height: 5'
Dalish, born and raised in the Free Marches

Bren was born to Gilli and Adva of Clan Lavellan, the clan’s Halla Keeper and a scout respectively, with the help of their friend Markes, an elven trader and herbalist who lived in a human village and often did business with the clan when they passed through. Quiet, sensitive, and inquisitive, but denied the type of education only mages received among the Dalish, Bren was prone to curiosity of the outside world and wandering, and was guided towards developing skills in tracking and stealth. She was trained by her mothers in both of their trades, and Bren often did work for the clan as both a scout and in assisting with the halla, but it was assumed that when Gilli retired she would take on the role of Halla Keeper officially. That changed after she was assigned the duty of investigating the Conclave and emerged with the Anchor.

Bren was friendly and curious, but lonely and fairly quiet in the unfamiliar crowd of the Inquisition. She took quickly to Solas, who seemed the closest thing to kin in a sea of strangers, Cole, whose unique qualities she found interesting and oddly comforting, and Bull, whose easygoing nature made him comfortable to talk to and who was a source of unfamiliar knowledge and insight. Conversely, her relationship with Sera was fraught, with Bren frequently attempting to reach out to her and repeatedly misstepping. Solas’s departure, however, eventually softened Sera’s demeanor towards Bren and they now consider themselves friends.

Though she had a friendly relationship with most members of the Inquisition, her feelings of isolation became overwhelming in the wake of Solas’s disappearance. She held everyone at arms’ length while she sank into depression, avoiding contacting even her own family for fear of the shame when they discovered she had let an outsider take away her vallaslin and along with it the most visible tie she had to her former life. Being named “Herald of Andraste” and becoming the leader of what was ostensibly a Chantry organization had already hurt her standing among the Dalish, and many became suspicious that she had lost her regard for her own people and essentially become a flat-ear herself. Bren fears she can’t even refute their claims, as her experiences in the Inquisition and the revelations that came along with the discovery of Solas’s true identity have completely changed the way she sees Elvhen history and their legacy. Her belief in the Creators has been shattered, and she no longer reveres them as she once did.

Romance

Was intended to wed her childhood sweetheart, a young hunter named Alvan. As newly-tattooed young adults, the two of them were assigned to the Dalish army conscripted by the Grey Wardens. They fought together to defend the Denerim alienage from the darkspawn horde, but Alvan was wounded, contracted the Taint, and subsequently died. Mourning the loss, she didn’t commit to anyone else for years. She spent a few years in an exclusive relationship with the clan’s herbalist, Hellathen'an (older sister of Raedin), but they agreed that they would remain merely friends, and they amicably split up to allow Hella to pursue a relationship with her future wife. Her relative isolation and alienation in the early days of the Inquisition, as well as her natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge, drew her to Solas, who became her closest companion and eventually her lover. His removal of her vallaslin, his subsequent disappearance, and the revelation of his betrayal have left her lost and deeply depressed. Part of her still believes that he can be swayed from his course, even if he is beyond redemption. In the days after his disappearance, she grew closer to Lace Harding; whether their close friendship can become more is hard to say. They are currently working closely as a team along with the remaining members of the disbanded Inquisition to find and stop Solas.
